This text game is a story about reflection on the experience of emigration. You will not have the opportunity to change the narrative associated with the personal stories of the artists. However, at the end of each chapter you will be asked a question from the test necessary to obtain citizenship in the country of residence of the artist you have chosen. Your answers will be recorded and will affect whether you receive in-game “citizenship”. As in life, I won’t tell you which questions you answered correctly and which ones you got wrong. This is a place for a story that is yet to be told. I created this space in the hope that other migrant creatives will join me in this project to tell their personal stories of changing for their new environment. I feel that as artists, and as human beings we are in constantly need to adapt to new technologies, tools, programs, people, collectives, cities, countries etc. Like our given bodies are not enough. We must change them to survive. Here I invite you to reimagine yourself. Hello, my name is Mariia. You just saw my story. I chose to talk about my experience through a journey in the sea, since I was born and raised on Sakhalin Island. On the shore of the Tatar Strait. Every day looking at the most beautiful sunsets in the world. When the sun lazily sinks into the water. The sea for me serves as a metaphor for that unusual world to which one must adapt in order to survive. Change your body and behavior in order to exist. I have not lived in Russia since 2016. Despite the fact that I speak my native language every day, my speech does not sound the same as before. When I talk to my family, I noticed that I have to choose the right words and watch the construction of sentences. This is a very strange feeling that my tongue is out of place. This year I received citizenship of the UK and I am happy about it, although I feel homesick. If there was a teleport, I would exist in both places every day. Perhaps this will be the topic of my next project. Teleport.
